The ICAEW’s 2023/24 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) supervision report reveals that 186 firms were asked to improve their AML practices, with 39 firms sanctioned and fined £92,025, and one member excluded. Of the 1,088 firms monitored, 80.7% were deemed compliant or generally compliant. ICAEW recently adjusted its supervision approach to emphasise the effectiveness of AML policies rather than technical compliance. Chief Officer Duncan Wiggetts highlighted the need for continued improvement and called on the UK government to support AML supervision with clear guidance, stressing the importance of professional bodies in the fight against money laundering.

MHA has appointed Peter Carville as partner in its Financial Services team. Carville, with over 30 years of experience, specialises in corporate tax and has worked with various financial institutions, including commercial and investment banks, asset managers, and trading platforms. His technical expertise spans international tax, business transformation, and various financial tax matters. Carville’s appointment brings MHA’s total number of tax partners to 38. Moore East Midlands has appointed Mohamed Mavani as joint managing partner, following the retirement of Geoff Norman. Mavani, an audit specialist, joined Moore in 2005 and became a partner in 2015. He has worked across manufacturing, retail, property, and education sectors. Norman’s retirement ends a 40-year career, including 17 years at Moore. He helped guide the firm through significant growth during his tenure. Mavani expressed gratitude for the role and aims to build on the firm’s success alongside fellow joint managing partner April Foster. Norman reflected on his rewarding career and strong client relationships.
