BTG Advisory LLP, part of Begbies Traynor Group, has appointed Jack Clitheroe as a partner in the north of England. Clitheroe, a seasoned forensic accountant with experience at Azets and EY, will advise on commercial disputes, loss of profits claims, business valuations, and fraud investigations. Richard Pughe, BTG Advisory partner, praised Clitheroe’s extensive expertise, noting his alignment with the firm's growth strategy. Clitheroe expressed enthusiasm about joining BTG Advisory, emphasising his commitment to maintaining and developing professional relationships while contributing to the firm’s expansion and service offerings. Armstrong Watson has welcomed a record 37 new graduate trainees, up from 28 in 2023, as part of its investment in young talent. Based in offices across northern England and Scotland, the trainees will pursue their ACA qualifications. The three-year program combines study, hands-on experience, and mentorship. CEO Paul Dickson highlighted the firm's commitment to developing internal talent, noting that many trainees build long-term careers within the company. This intake, the largest to date, reflects the firm’s growth and dedication to providing comprehensive training and career opportunities in various service lines. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has urged the Scottish government to raise the audit threshold for charities to alleviate financial and administrative burdens. Currently, charities with annual incomes over £500k require audits, compared to £1m in England and Wales. ACCA's call follows a survey revealing that smaller charities face higher audit costs proportionally and struggle to find auditors due to a decline in audit firms. Susan Love of ACCA emphasised the need for updated regulations to support grassroots charities, ensuring their funds are better allocated while maintaining governance standards. Milsted Langdon has appointed James Barrell as its new audit director in the Bristol office. With nearly 20 years of experience in senior roles at national firms, Barrell brings extensive knowledge in audit, accounting, and financial reporting. He will oversee audits for owner-managed businesses, AIM-listed companies, and multinational groups. Barrell aims to combine his expertise with the firm’s existing capabilities to drive growth. Rachel Hotham, people partner, highlighted Barrell’s role in mentoring young professionals and enhancing the firm’s audit services, marking a significant step in Milsted Langdon's commitment to client service excellence.
