North West firm Cowgills has promoted Ben Day to partner in its debt advisory team, increasing the partner count to 24. Day, with a funding director background, has raised over £150m since joining in 2017. The debt advisory team aids private businesses and financial sponsors in selecting suitable debt products. The move aligns with Cowgills’ commitment to expanding its debt advisory services in the North West, reinforcing its deal advisory division’s growth, including debt advisory, transactional services, strategic support, and corporate finance.

Hazlewoods has appointed Nick Cusack as its third licensed insolvency practitioner, enhancing the business recovery and insolvency team. Cusack, with 18+ years of experience, supports the firm’s growth strategy, delivering exceptional service and maintaining client relationships. As a fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association and R3, Cusack’s expertise in distressed situations aligns with Hazlewoods’ commitment to providing top-tier services. BDO LLP has opened applications for 130+ apprentices across its UK offices, continuing its growth in early career programs. The apprenticeship program targets students completing A-level studies, with applications open until March 24, 2024. In September 2024, successful candidates will join BDO. The firm is also recruiting for its graduate trainee program, industrial placement students, summer work experience, and insight programs. The “Explore BDO” insight program, now in its third year, focuses on social mobility, offering students from less privileged backgrounds a three-day experience in accountancy.

The AICPA and CIMA have announced the expansion of their mentoring program to Africa, Europe, and Canada. Initially launched in the UK in 2022 for CIMA members and CGMA exam completers, the program offers mentorship opportunities for learning from experienced professionals. The extension enables mentees to connect with mentors across the UK, Europe, Africa, and Canada, fostering knowledge, networks, skills, and confidence development. Recognizing the importance of workplace mentors, the program aligns with the Adobe Future Workforce Study, where 83% of Gen Z considers having a mentor crucial for their career.
