Whitman has already supported the network’s shaping of its strategic direction from a position on the board of directors.

Last year, alongside several member companies, the network adopted a new strategy to match the accelerated pace of change occurring in business across the globe.

Whitman called it an “honour” to work with the network and its members in this “extraordinary time”.

He said: “Our collective purpose makes our network more than just a collection of firms. We are united in our commitment to our clients who fuel our economies and enrich our communities throughout the world.”

Ted Verkade, CEO at Baker Tilly, said: “As CEO of Baker Tilly US, Alan brings a unique perspective to the role.

“He has his pulse on the needs of our members and their clients, and a strong vision for our accelerated evolution as a network.”

Whitman will be succeeding Tim Christen, who has served as chairman of the board since 2017.

A board member of two manufacturing companies, Christen also serves as a Financial Accounting Foundation trustee, a board member of CPA.com, and a council member of both the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
