EY appoints new partner to drive Midlands expansion

EY has appointed partner Chris Romans to its Midlands team in a bid to drive expansion in the region, and support growth across its EY Private business

Romans brings over 30 years of experience to the role, and first began his career at Arthur Andersen and Robson Rhodes.

He was most recently a partner at PwC in the Midlands, leading the firm’s local tax and wider private business practices.

According to EY, he is a “well-known figure” amongst the Midlands’ business and intermediary community, having spent the last 20 years working with the region’s leading private businesses and advising on a number of significant Midlands transactions.

Romans has joined EY to drive the growth of its EY Private team that “supports the full spectrum of private enterprises” including private capital managers, investors and the portfolio businesses they fund, as well as business owners, family businesses, family offices and entrepreneurs.

EY said the team aims to “provide a collaborative community between EY colleagues, intermediaries and clients, building relationships and supporting the growth ambitions of private business”.

Romans said: “I’m delighted to join EY Private in the Midlands and begin a new and very exciting chapter in my career. I’m passionate about the region and supporting the key role private businesses and entrepreneurs play as the backbone to the success of the local economy

“Our aim will be to build personal and trusted relationships with our clients, bringing them the best of EY and all that our global network has to offer to help drive their success and support their aspirations.”

He added: “During the six months before joining EY I have continued to support private business owners in the Midlands, creating a social enterprise to bring together a network of advisors to work with business owners during the current crisis in return for donations to local charities.

“I’m now very much looking forward to continuing to assist private businesses in my role at EY.”

Simon O’Neill, office managing partner at EY in the Midlands, said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Chris to the team to continue the growth of EY Private across the region. He brings considerable experience and expertise and his appointment will further strengthen the range of services and insights we are able to provide our clients in the Midlands.

“The private market in the Midlands is a truly innovative one and we’re looking forward to playing a part in supporting the evolution of these businesses.”
