UHY tax partner appointed by CIOT to chair European branch

Clive Gawthorpe, tax partner at UHY Hacker Young’s Manchester office, has been appointed by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) to chair its European branch.

Gawthorpe said he is looking forward to working with European and International tax advisers at branch meetings around Europe once the coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.

The European branch of the CIOT has previously held meetings in Amsterdam, Geneva, London, Milan and Paris. Gawthorpe saud ge is looking to expand attendees’ international tax knowledge and allow them to “share ideas and knowledge”. Non-members of the Institute are welcome to attend the events.

Gawthorpe said: “The CIOT European Branch brings together UK tax professionals based across Europe to share knowledge and keep up-to-date with tax developments.

“The current situation is challenging for tax advisers as for most other groups, with personal and family challenges combined with an often-heavy workload, as clients try to manage their finances and access the economic relief available to them.”

He added: “Tax advisers have a crucial role to play in helping businesses and other taxpayers make it through the current crisis. The CIOT and its branch network plays a crucial role in supporting its members.”
